During the third week of September, I decided to take on my very first Juice Detox!! As mentioned on the show, I had done a lot of traveling in the preceding weeks and needed a restart. Needless to say, I was excited to get my body back on track (internally).
Day 1: My alarm goes off about ten times . . .the usual. That last ring forced me off of the matress and onto the cold tiled floor. After surviving my shower, I snatch juice one from the fridge. The first sip. WOW. My tastebuds were anticipating a sweet taste reminiscent of the green smoothies I frequently concoct during my morning hustle. This was not it. I fought it down on my commute to work while singing praises to the Lord, hoping he’d help me to make it through these next three days. I FINALLY finished the juice an hour after I started. My mouth salivated. My eyes watered. I made no eye contact with my counterparts before rushing out of the classroom, down the hallway and to the nearest stall. I was just grateful that my vomit cooperated until I got to my destination. As I got myself together, I wondered, what my colleagues thought of me, as I’m sure they heard the gagging sounds seaping through the cracks of the bathroom door. With bloodshot red eyes, I attempted to convince them that I was ok (and tried to convince myself as well). “Can I make it?“ is what I thought to myself as I walked back down the hallway. Within two hours, I gulped the second green juice and talked myself through each large gulp. “It’s not that bad. It’s good for you.“
This was the morning routine & thought process for the three consecutive days that I committed to the juice detox. My two yellow (afternoon) and two red (evening) juices made me more excited with each sip. They tantalized my tastebuds in contrast with juices one and two. In culminating this experience of three days where I only consumed juices and ate raw fruits (1 serving per day) and veggies, I can honestly say that I am proud of myself. With the busy September I had full of traveling and trashing my body with a consistent unhealthy diet, it felt good to demonstrate true self-love by restarting. I re-introduced it to all of the good things it loved and it thanked me in return. I’d absolutely recommend the cleanse to anyone who needs to kickstart a healthy habit and/or anyone who needs re-booting (like I did).
